PRISTINE VET Info Day in Ghana Empowers Female Engineering Students in Renewable Energy

As part of its dissemination and gender-inclusion activities, the PRISTINE VET consortium successfully organised a targeted Info Day Workshop at the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED) in Kumasi, Ghana.

The event brought together undergraduate female engineering students from the Faculty of Technical Education and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Its main goal was to raise awareness about the PRISTINE VET project and inspire greater female participation in the renewable energy sector, where women currently represent only 5 % of trainees.

Key highlights of the workshop included:
– The critical role of renewable energy in combating climate change and meeting growing global energy demand
– Career opportunities in Solar PV, Wind, Biomass & Biogas, and Hydrogen technologies
– The PRISTINE VET project’s objectives: modernising VET curricula, developing competency-based training, and achieving at least 40 % female participation
– Practical information on hands-on training, digital learning tools, and future employment pathways in the green energy sector

Participants showed high engagement through active Q&A sessions and expressed strong interest in the project’s upcoming training programmes. The workshop successfully increased awareness of PRISTINE VET project, strengthened interest in renewable energy careers and identified potential candidates for the project’s future activities.

Dr. Patrick Nyaaba Ayambire and the USTED team delivered an inspiring session that received excellent feedback for its practical and inclusive approach.
This Info Day marks an important milestone in PRISTINE VET’s commitment to gender equity and capacity building in West Africa. Similar events will follow in Burkina Faso and Mauritania in the coming months.
